QUALIFYING EVENTS

LOCAL QUALIFYING EVENTS

Local Qualifying Events will be held throughout the country at golf facilities with a PGA Professional. If your home club is not hosting an event, please contact your PGA Professional. Find a local PGA Facility.

Format

One round (18 holes), one best net ball of three players. Teams of three amateurs will compete at their host PGA Professional’s club. Each amateur must have an established USGA handicap. A Local Qualifying Event must have a minimum of seven (7) unique teams (21 amateurs) to have an official event.
Learn more about the handicap requirements.

Application of Handicap (New)

Amateurs will receive 75% of their handicap allowance adjusted for the course and tees being played. In calculating the amateur's handicap, the handicap allowance will be multiplied by 75% and rounded up or down (.5 rounds up). Strokes are taken from the men’s and women’s course handicap stroke index. The team must use each player’s score on a minimum of three (3) holes.

If an amateur does not have an established USGA handicap index they may play as a 0 handicap. Amateurs must use their index if one is established.

Handicap Verification

Amateurs playing at a facility other than their home facility will need to provide the host PGA Professional with their most recent handicap certificate. Amateurs will not be able to participate without verification of their handicap.

Team Handicap

The total handicap index combined of all three partners will be a maximum of 54.0 if all male, 70.0 if one female, 80.0 if two female, 90.0 if all three female.

Rules and Regulation

The Rules of Golf which govern play are determined by the United States Golf Association and applied by The PGA of America Board of Directors. The Championship is subject to the overall supervision of the Board and The PGA Rules Committee.

Entry Fee

$55 Entry Fee per amateur (plus applicable course fees). Entry forms will need to be completed as a team. Applications for amateurs are now available.

All participants will receive a tee gift pack consisting of a sling backpack , a hat, and golf balls.

Advancing to the Section Championship

Each Local Qualifying Event that has a minimum of seven teams and a maximum of seventeen teams, one team advances. For events that have 18 or more teams, two teams will advance to their designated Section Championship. At the Section Championship, the three amateurs will be joined by a PGA Professional from their host facility.
