SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS
Section Championships will be held throughout the country at 41 designated PGA golf facilities. For a full listing of the Section Championship dates please scroll down to the end of the page or click here.
Format:
One round (18 holes), two best net balls of four players. Teams of four, three amateurs and one PGA Professional, will compete in a Section Championship. Each amateur must maintain their USGA handicap.
Application of Handicap
Amateurs will use the lower of either their Local Qualifying Event handicap index or their current handicap index. Amateurs will receive 75% of their handicap allowance adjusted for the course and tees being played. In calculating the amateur's handicap, the handicap allowance will be divided by 75% and rounded up or down (.5 rounds up). Strokes are taken from the men’s and women’s course handicap stroke index. The team must use each player’s score on a minimum of three (3) holes.
Handicap Verification
Each amateur must provide their most recent handicap certificate to the team’s PGA Professional. The certificate will be submitted at the Section Championship prior to play. A team will not be able to participate without verification of their handicap. Amateurs must ensure their individual gross score from the Local Qualifying Event has been posted to their handicap index.
Rules and Regulation
The Rules of Golf which govern play are determined by the United States Golf Association and applied by The PGA of America Board of Directors. The Championship is subject to the overall supervision of the Board and The PGA Rules Committee.
Purse & Gift Certificates
PGA Professionals and amateurs will be competing for a minimum combined purse/gift certificates up to $30,000 (based on 2008 section participation). Gift certificates will be redeemable in the Pro Shop of the hosting facility. Awards will be given to the top three teams.
Entry Fee:
$100 Entry Fee per amateur. All participants will receive a tee gift pack.
Advancing to the National Championship
The winning team from each Section Championship advances to the National Championship held at Pinehurst Resort, Pinehurst, N.C. October 26-28, 2009.
